About the Band

Brocelïande plays original arrangements of Celtic music from the British Isles and the Medieval and Renaissance music of the courts and countrysides, with an emphasis on music inspired by or traditionally performed during each of the four seasons. Their sound features beautiful vocal and instrumental harmonies weaving up to 3-part vocals with lyrical Celtic harp, guitar, cello, recorders, octave mandolin, nyckelharpa, flute, whistle, percussion, and more!

Their seasonal repertoire ranges in feel from upbeat Irish dances to beautiful ballads to exciting a capella madrigals. Their evocative lyrics, including some in Medieval French and Portuguese, speak of love and longing, quests and revels, magic and transformation. Kris's 10-string hardanger cello d'amore was built to her specifications, and it is the only one in existence.

Brocelïande tours throughout the West Coast and has been performing since 1999. Recent performance highlights have included  the Stanford Reller Series, the LOV-Newark Series, the CalTech Folk Music Series, Cage Free Concerts in Ashland, and many others. In 2008 Broceliande performed in the Disney movie Bedtime Stories. Their delight is to uplift their audiences and provide a sonic sanctuary for a time, honoring the elements of Nature and celebrating the human experience. Brocelïande is well suited to intimate, acoustic live performances as well as larger shows requiring amplification.

“Broceliande — reminiscent of music from times past, hearkening of an era of chivalry and nobility. Broceliande combines the past with the future with the artistry of four of the finest musicians on the West Coast.”  KKUP 91.5FM

“It’s an understatement, but I’ll say it anyway: these people are good. Each is a master of the various instruments they play, and their arrangements are intricate, exciting, exceptional music ... their vocal harmonies are exquisite.”   Rambles Cultural Arts Magazine

“…Tasty vocal harmonies in plenty, including two selections featuring some beautiful a cappella singing. The vocal leads are full and strong, but it's the harmonizing that makes this so delightful to hear ... In addition, each of the band members is also a fine instrumentalist.” Green Man Review
